At the end of 2003 we purchased a bog-standard semi-detached house with a fairly neglected cottage garden. The front garden was dominated by 2 large conifers and a concrete pond.

  Both the house and the landscaping were from the late 50ies. The inspiration for the garden is drawn from Japanese garden design, though this is by no means a Japanese garden. The Japanese influence is reflected in the planting and in the amount of pruning time spent.

  About 30 Japanese Maples (Acers) add drama and interest.

Almost all the landscaping is done by us, starting with the fences (2004) and ending with the decks (2008). While the planting has progressed well, it is still not in it's final stage, as plants are still moved around to improve the effect. And there is of course the 'corner', the end of our next door neighbour's garden which we purchased in 2006, and completed this year.
